Michael Frendo
Dr. Frendo is a former Speaker of the Parliament of Malta and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Malta. He served as a Member of Parliament for 26 years, a Member of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, Minister of Telecommunications, Transport and Technology and Minister (earlier Minister of State) for Broadcasting, Culture, Youth and Sport. He was a candidate for Secretary-General of the Commonwealth at the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting in 2007.

He has taken an active role in EU Constitutional development, serving as a member of the European Convention on the Future of Europe and a signatory to its Draft Constitutional Treaty produced by the European Convention. He graduated as Doctor of Laws from the University of Malta and obtained a Masters in European Legal Studies from the University of Exeter, United Kingdom. He was admitted to the Maltese bar in 1978 and, over a period of 22 years, has practised extensively in European Union law, communications law, Corporate law and Gaming law. He has written and published extensively books and articles on law, politics and diplomacy.

He is also Chairman of BNF Bank (Malta) Plc and the Vice President
of the Council of Europe European Commission on Democracy through Law
(Venice Commission) which advises states on constitutional matters and issues
relating to good governance, human rights and the rule of law. Dr. Frendo enjoys history, international politics and learning about different cultures.
